The IB diploma candidates at LGB should be delighted with the news that our school has provided free access to the full Revision Village course for IB diploma maths. Year 13 students at Ecolint have already had access to Revision Village for mathematics and now it is the Year 12’s turn. This online platform is an important tool for this challenging course, and is therefore a positive step taken by LGB staff in order to ensure that the students doing IB have a chance to thoroughly and structurally revise for tests and upcoming exams. This promotes the popular notion of combatting the “Forgetting Curve”, that justifies how the human brain is keen to forget information that is not consistently revised with the passing of time.
Revision Village has a lot to offer across all subjects, for different courses including the Advanced Placement classes. The platform offers a series of practice questions that range by topic from easy to difficult levels. The most advantageous part of this question bank is the mark scheme that comes with it, customized for every question and even providing a video explanation of the solution. Additionally, students will have access to practice exams that are categorized in two papers, with and without calculators, just like the final exam, which can help students in managing their time whilst completing the questions. To further summarize the key concepts, Revision Village provides host videos that explains and organizes the course. The final step for preparation is the use of past papers which are also available.
Although this opportunity is highly commendable for the mathematics course, it neglects the other five subjects the diploma students take in the field of humanities, sciences or languages. This makes it difficult for students to structure and organize their revisions in one place, and may resort to candidates having to use multiple different platforms that may not all have the same structure or quality of questions. Therefore, it is important to remember that mathematics is not the only subject where active revision and practice question completion is required. Another important aspect to note about the benefits of a full Revision Village package for all subjects is that it ensures that the syllabus and course content is always up to date, so that students do not accidentally access the previous courses, as the IB modify their course structures every two years.
This is a positive initiative, especially for the younger cohort of IB students at LGB. This action is much appreciated by the Ecolint students and parents who hope to be more at ease in tackling this stressful process of studying.
