Four dedicated Year 10 students are offering an exciting sport event that will include three different sports, and you’re invited!

This event will be a fundraiser for the Teenage Cancer Trust and will take place on Sunday, March 23rd from 10:00-16:00. It will be a day of football, basketball, and volleyball, open to all students from Year 4 to 13 and parents from all three campuses. There is no need to have any of these sports as an extracurricular to join in on the fun. The students are also looking for volunteers from Years 8 to 13 to help throughout the day, something that could be added to the Learner Passport as a service. Parents are welcome to make their teams and will be able to play matches between each other. However, the finale will be the winning team of parents against the winning team of students. To participate every player on the team is required to pay a 5 CHF entry fee and will be able to purchase baked goods from the bake sale.

The students chose to fundraise for the Teenage Cancer Trust because they wanted to help teenagers, just like them, who are suffering from this terrible disease. There is also a personal strive for this cause as a student in the group has a friend who underwent chemotherapy and just finished their treatment. This student has seen firsthand what cancer can do to the person and their family. Losing confidence and happiness is not something that a teenager should experience. According to the National Cancer Institute, among adolescents (ages 15 to 19 years), it is estimated that 5,290 are diagnosed with cancer and 550 die of the disease. Cancer treatment is incredibly expensive, making it extremely difficult and sometimes impossible for families to fund, which is why fundraisers, like this one, are so important. It is for these various reasons that the students have decided to fundraise for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Here are some brief descriptions of each sports activity.

Football

Participants will be asked to make a team of fourteen people, with eleven players and three substitutes. The rules will be as normal and the school’s football coaches will referee all the matches. There will be two matches played at a time, each thirty minutes long.

Basketball

The teams will consist of a maximum of seven people, with five players and two substitutes. Teams will compete through group stages, quarter finals, semi finals and finals. Once the adult team and student team have been rewarded with their prize for winning, they can compete in a friendly competition for overall victory.

Volleyball

Each team will consist of a minimum of seven people and a maximum of nine people, with six players and the rest being substitutes. Once all the matches are over, the two finalist teams can participate in a friendly competition for overall victory.

This is more than just a sports event, it’s a chance to have funand support a great cause. You will also get to support the amazing passion project of Adiel, Jana, Maya, and Ece. Gather your friends, form a team, and sign up to volunteer!
