Paris in the spotlight of fashion exhibitions

For decades now, Paris has been known as the fashion capital of the world, the birthplace of numerous high-fashion brands such as Louis Viton, Chanel, Christian Dior and many more. The city hosts the most significant fashion events, notably the fashion week, hosted 4 times a year. In this article, I’d like to honor the history of high fashion. Providing you some information about the biggest and most significant temporary fashion exhibitions that you could find in Paris at this time of the year.

Du cœur à la main – Dolce & Gabbana

After an astonishing success at Milan’s Palazzo Royale, the exhibition has now finally arrived in Paris, where you’ll be able to find it at the Grand Palais from Friday, January 10 to Monday, March 31st 2025. For the first time in the 40 years of the brand’s history, since the brand was founded in 1985, one of the most revered pieces of Domenico Dolce’s and Stefano Gabbana’s works will be presented to the public. The meticulously crafted pieces inspired by Italian culture, art, and history are truly a must-see, so if you happen to be in Paris, don’t miss the rare opportunity to enjoy Dolce&Gabbana masterpieces in person.

 Au fil de l’or – L’art de se vêtir de L’Orient au Soleil – Levant

The exhibition is centered around one of the most- if not the most- valuable and desirable materials in human history: gold. It is a breathtaking mix of history and contemporary art, woven together by a single golden thread. The exposition features numerous historical artifacts, from the earliest recorded examples of gold string being used to decorate clothes, to the gold-woven silks of India and Indonesia. Gold-embroidered kimonos of the Edo period, and the works of Chinese contemporary artist Guo Pei. The exposition is open for visitors from Tuesday, February 11th, to Sunday, July 6th, at the Quai Branly Museum.

Louvre Couture

For the first time in the Louvre Museum’s 232-year history, it will be hosting a fashion exhibition alongside its historic museum relics. The exposition will take place from January 24 to July 21 in the Louvre Museum in the department of art objects. It will feature 65 contemporary silhouettes, complemented by 30 accessories from 45 top designers. The exquisite silhouette and delicate craftworks seen in every fold and inch of the fabric are truly breathtaking. The designs are displayed in the galleries and rooms of the department, which add an unusual, poetic, and artistic touch to the pre-existing compositions with the mastery of textiles. 

Les Fleurs d’Yves Saint Laurent

The new exhibition dedicated to the fashion house founder’s love and inspiration he found in flowers is taking place at the Yves Saint Laurent Museum from September 20, 2024, to May 4, 2025. This exhibition is filled with floral and natural motifs, reflecting the harmony of nature in high couture pieces. Notably featuring pieces from the 2001 spring/summer collection, the spring/summer 1962 collection, the summer bride embroidered by Laetitia Casta in 1999, and many more unique achieve pieces.

Fashion – New Generations: 35 Years of ANDAM

To celebrate its 35th anniversary, the National Association for the Development of Fashion Arts (L’Association nationale pour le développement des arts de la mode) is hosting the exhibition Fashion – New Generations: 35 Years of ANDAM at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs from October 1 to March 30. The exhibition celebrates the history of the association, the winners of its last two editions and some of the most influential names in its history, including Martin Margiela, Gareth Pugh, and Jeremy Scott. The exhibition features 17 unique and unusual fashion silhouettes, many of which can be described as avant-garde or even rebellious, with an unconventional yet fascinating artistic vision

As usual, Paris continues to offer diverse exhibitions and pieces for fashion-enthusiasts. However, while the well-known permanent exhibitions, such as those at the Galerie Dior, the YSL Museum, MAD, and the Palais Galliera, are always worth a visit. You can discover true gems hidden among the many temporary exhibitions. So, if you happen to be in Paris anytime soon, be sure to check the dates—you’re guaranteed to find at least a few extraordinary fashion exhibitions nearby that you’ll enjoy and remember.
