Wait no further, as we are about to uncover the top 5 best rated movies of the year and what, or should I say who, hides behind such success.
Top 1: Inside out 2:
We start with no other than Inside out 2, the animated movie earning the highest box office of 2024.
This movie follows the story of Riley, more precisely the emotions that guide her in her everyday life. Since Inside Out 1, Riley has grown into a teenager marking the arrival of new emotions like anxiety, envy, boredom and embarrassment. The only problem: they try to take over Riley’s mind, dismissing all other emotions, ultimately sending Riley into a never ending spiral of chaos, fear and sadness.
This movie was commended for its appeal over all age demographics and its success in portraying emotions in such a realistic manner thanks to its incredible relatable moments.
Top 2: Deadpool and Wolverine
This superhero movie based on Marvel Comics is a sequel to the 20th century fox films Deadpool and Deadpool 2. In this movie, as Wolverine is recovering from past injuries, he meets the famous Deadpool who travelled in time in hopes of forming a friendship capable of defeating a common enemy.
The viewers highly appreciated the dynamic duo formed between the complex personality of Wolverine and Deadpool’s humour.
Top3: Despicable me 4:
This childhood classic didn’t fail to amaze once again:
In this 4th sequel, Margo, Edith and Agnès must welcome the newest member of the family: Gru junior whose only goal in life is to make his father’s life a living hell. In this movie, Gru must face a new villain which turns out to be a childhood rival: Maxime and his equally devilish wife: Valentina. This duo threatened to cause harm to Gru’s family forcing them to move abroad and start living a double life.
The viewers once again appreciated the presence of the well beloved characters, also stating that the animation quality had improved.
Top 4 Beetle Juice Beetle juice:
In the original movie of 1988, after a couple, the Maitlands, tragically die in a car accident, they find themselves stuck in their former house, scaring away any potential buyers. However, one day when the unbearable Deetze and his teen daughter Lydia move in, the vain efforts of the Maitland to try to scare them away attracts a spirit: Beetlejuice whose presence quickly becomes dangerous for both the deceased couple and Lydia.
In this sequel, Lydia is now a mother struggling to keep her family together after a loss all whilst Beetlejuice returns to haunt her.
The viewers were excited about the nostalgic return of this classic 20th century comic horror movie, and were delighted to see the old cast reunite and merge with the new one.
Top 5: Dune part 2:
In this sequel, Paul Altréides unites with Chani and the Fremen whilst carefully preparing and planning his revenge against the people who massacred his family. He will have to choose between the love of his life or saving the galaxy from its doomed destiny. Nevertheless its fate rests in his hands.
Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya’s performances were highly praised by the public for their depth and authenticity and their ability to showcase all subtleties of their characters.
