Lebron and Bronny James make NBA History Becoming First, Father-Son Duo

By Kennedy Kearns, Year 13

This past week, Lerbon and Bronny James made NBA history becoming the first father-son duo in NBA history. Lebron James, the 39 year old, has already made a name for himself in the basketball world. Playing with Kobe Bryant, being the all-time high scorer with 40,580 points, and winning 4 championships with 10 Championship appearances. Lebron is arguably the greatest player of all-time, however it is very likely Lebron is second to Micheal Jordan. Lebron’s 20 year-old son, Bronny James was drafted this past year 55th to the Los Angeles Lakers. Bronny went to college at USC, and grew up on the court due to his father.

The father-son duo made history as they both checked in the second quarter together, during the Lakers game against Minnesota. Bronny had 3 minutes on the court, and although he did not score, was able to grab one rebound in his time on the court. Although, his impact might seem little in the pre-season game against Golden Warriors Bronny had a total of 35 minutes with 17 points, and 4 rebounds. Bronny’s time in the NBA will continue, and hopefully improvements will be seen so there can be a build of this father-son dynamic on the court. Besides the game, many other famous people and history makers were in the building to see the father-son duo in action. Including, baseball father-son duo Ken Griffy Sr. and Jr.. Who made history in baseball when they both played for the Seattle Marines.

This was not only a significant moment for sports, but also for family. Lebron himself said that he wouldn’t retire until he got to play with his son. Also, for Bronny to be able to practice against his dad, and learn from his dad is a very special moment. Lebron is going to leave a huge legacy whenever he leaves the league, and hopefully Bronny will also make his own mark in the league. As the duo moved into the regular season in the last game against the Cavaliers, Lebron’s old team, Bronny scored his first NBA points. This was an intimate moment for Bronny and his father, as Lebron remembers “watching him on the court 11 years ago”. This father-son relationship is dynamic and something most in the sports world are looking forward to seeing this season.

The next question for the future is when will Lebron retire? Lebron turns 40 in December, which is an old age for an NBA player. However, he shows no signs of weakness, and says he cannot imagine retirement for the near future. Hopefully, this continues as Lebron builds a legacy even more. Hypothetically, if Lebron is able to stick it out for at least 4 more years, he could potentially also play with his son Bryce James, who is currently 17. The possibilities for this family are endless, and this moment of father-son duo will definitely go down in history, since one of the greatest basketball players of all time is able to play with his son, in one of the greatest stages of all time.
