The 2022, 50th AMAs, American Music Awards, were certainly something this year, this year they were hosted by actor and daytime show host, Wayne Brady. These awards were presented in the Microsoft theater in Los Angeles on a Sunday evening.
Performers such as Pink, Bebe Rexha, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Wonder, and more attended the evening, all eager to know who will win and who will take the ultimate prize home.
The AMA’s kicked off on the red carpet where we got to encounter some of the most eye-catching outfits, such as silver spikes, from Machine Gun Kelly to silver rhinestone fringe from Sabrina Carpenter. Another outfit that popped out was 33-year-old singer, Bebe Rexha’s voluminous red Bordeaux tulle plunging gown with knee-length leather boots, which was designed by none other than fashion icon, Law Roach.
Moving on from the red carpet and onto the award ceremony, our favorite blonde became nominated for 6 awards, making it a risky gamble but not an impossible chance for her to win.
Shocker, 32-year-old country music star, Taylor Swift swept the nation by winning all 6 awards for all 6 categories she was nominated for and the ultimate prize of the night. The artist declared to her fans “I cannot express how unbelievable it is to me that I still do this and that you still care” expressing her emotions about how the night ended.
Moving on from Swift and onto the “Boyfriend” artist, Cameron did certainly not surprise the audience when dedicating her award as “Best new artist” to the LGBTQ+ community. She actually opened this legendary night with her biggest hit “Boyfriend”. “I want to start by saying that every award that I ever win will always first and foremost be dedicated to the queer community at large,” she began “You guys have carved out such a space for me to be myself and to write music about it and I have never felt safer or more loved or more supported, and I hope I can give you some semblance of that same feeling in my music,” she resumed, this earned Cameron her spot as a newly queer artist and a new space in the community, earning her the spotlight she deserves.
As all good things come to an end, this year’s electric awards were certainly something, let’s just hope the same for next year’s ceremony.
