On Thursday, April 28th, 2022, eight international schools from across Switzerland met at Bout-du-Monde Sport Center in Geneva for one of the nation’s largest international school sporting events since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. While all three of the Ecolint schools participated in the meet, LGB fielded a notably larger team the other two campuses, surpassed in size only by the International School of Basel.
The meet had a relatively small number of events, each divided by gender and two age groups (A and B). The first half of the day would see initial Basel success, who held a narrow lead over LGB, followed by Institut Le Rosey. The shorter afternoon segment would see this narrow lead vanish as the LGB Girls A team dominated the 400m, evening the scores as the teams began the final event. LGB success across all age groups in the 4x100m relay event, coupled with a crippling disqualification on the Basel team would prove decisive in deciding the meet’s outcome. The end of the day would see an LGB victory, enjoying a moderate lead over Basel, who in turn were followed closely by Rosey in 3rd place.
With future track events likely to become more common as the world returns to pre-pandemic normalcy, this recent triumph at its first meet in nearly two years proves to be a promising start for the LGB track team as it enters into 2022.
