UEFA Champions League Semi-Finals: What LGB Thinks!

By Ruikang Shi, year 10

The UEFA Champions League semi finals started last week. This year is the 68th season of Europe’s premier club football tournament organised by the UEFA. UEFA is short for The Union of European Football Associations, it was founded in 1955, around 67 years ago. There are around 32 teams in total in the UEFA and the most successful club in the UEFA Champions League is Real Madrid with a whopping 13 titles! The UEFA Champions League is the qualifier for the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Last Tuesday, Manchester City and Real Madrid went head to head against each other and what a magnificent game that was! This match took place in Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England. Man City started off the match with a quick goal at the 2 minute mark, then a second goal at the 11 minute mark. Following the first 2 goals, Man City had multiple chances to score but were unable to make any. Real Madrid scored 3 goals in total and 2 of them were from Benzema. One was a penalty shot and another was a side foot shot. The final score for that match was 4-3 for Man City. Overall, it was quite incredible to watch, most people said that it was “insane” and “amazing”. Others thought that this was the best game in this season. Some people said that the defence by Real Madrid was bad, which was true, and they could have done much better.

Enough talking about the past, the next match between Man City and Real Madrid will be on the 4th of May. This will be the 2nd leg out of the two. Most people are hoping to see Real Madrid win the 2nd leg and are hoping that Benzema will score plenty of goals too. But there are also others who believe that Man City will win, once again. But who knows what will happen during the match, all we have to do is wait patiently and enjoy the spectacle. Another match will take place on the 3rd of May between Villarreal and Liverpool. This will also be the 2nd leg for the teams with Liverpool winning the first leg. Most people are rooting for Liverpool to also win the 2nd leg.

These two matches are the Semi-Finals and whoever wins will go against each other in the finals. Even though everyone is rooting for their own teams, most people believe that the winner of this year’s Champions League will be Manchester City. The second most likely winner is Liverpool. Perhaps these two teams will be the two qualifying teams that will go into the finals for this year’s UEFA Champions League. Let us wait together as we hold our breath for the final moments of this year’s Champions League.
