The concept of politics is what governs our everyday lives. Our society, as well as its development, is centered around politics and the shifts of power within governments and who/what parties rule a country.
The idea of politics is nothing new for us, but what is the true meaning of politics? Politics is a way of running the society that humans have established and settling conflicts in the most civilized way possible. It is an activity in which people set down rules on how we should live and run our cities and countries. The idea first started in 600 BCE in Rome and Greece when a group of thinkers began to decide how their societies should be run and how conflicts should be settled.
Without politics our world would not be what it is today; it would probably be a world in which everyone decides how they want to live as an individual and not as a society. You might think that politics does not affect your day-to-day life, but in reality, your life is largely driven by political decisions. For example, without politics, we would not enjoy human rights or public transport. Of course, politics does not only have a marginal impact on our lives but also on bigger and more global areas, such as settling a disagreement between countries to taking a decision on a global pandemic.
We are lucky to have a politics club here at La Grande Boissière where current world news issues related to politics are discussed. This club is led by Soraya Vahabzadeh and Yannis Bouzaglo from Year 12 who are doing this for their CAS project. This club is mostly in French but English speakers are also welcome. The LGB Express interviewed the founders of this club to introduce it to everyone in the school community.

Pouvez-vous présenter brièvement le Club de Politique ?
Yannis: Le Club de Politique est une opportunité de s’informer sur des sujets d’actualité et leurs implications, ainsi que de participer à des échanges riches avec des membres investis (et respectueux).
Qu’est-ce qui vous a poussé à fonder le club politique ?
Soraya: Yannis et moi avons toujours eu une passion pour nous informer sur les sujets actuels. Nous nous sommes dit que ça intéresserait du monde à pouvoir exprimer ses idées librement sur des sujets qui font débattre, et n’ont pas de réponse claire.
Quels sont vos objectifs pour ce club ?
Yannis: Un de nos objectifs principaux serait d’aborder des problématiques et thématiques diverses une fois la fin de l’année scolaire.
Comment ce club aide-t-il la communauté d’Ecolint ?
Soraya: Si les élèves ont des questions ou envie de s’informer sur le monde qui nous entoure, le Club de Politique leur sera utile.
Que faites-vous en ce moment ?
Yannis: Nos dernières séances ont été portées sur le refus de la venue d’Eric Zemmour à Genève, les implications de la COP26, ou encore le droit à l’avortement.
Depuis combien de temps dirigez-vous ce club et pour qui est le club?
Soraya: Le Club a lieu chaque lundi depuis le 11 octobre. Le club est pour tous/tes les étudiant/es de la 10e à la 13e. Nous parlons majoritairement en français mais les étudiants qui parlent anglais sont les bienvenus.
Comment aide-t-il les élèves qui participent?
Yannis: En plus d’avoir accès à de nombreuses présentations sur des sujets divers, les participants ont l’opportunité de s’exprimer et de partager leurs perspectives. Ainsi, le Club est un lieu de partage.
