With the Cafeteria now only being open if you sign yourself in for the Cafeteria food, more and more students are going out for lunch. Not to fret – below I’ve provided a non-exhaustive list of quick and delicious lunch spots for students (all accessible by tram). If you’re looking for more even more recommendations that are closer to school, check out the part 1 to this article ‘The Best Lunch Spots for Takeout During Lockdown’.
Firstly, two places situated near the tram stop Eaux-Vives Gare are Sushi Shop and Dominoes. Sushi Shop offers a variety of different types of sushi and poke bowls. You can either take something from their selection that they have out already or look at their menu and order what you would like. When restaurants are open, there are a few tables that you can sit down at or you can sit outside the Gare Des Eaux-Vives. If you’re more of a fried food kind of person, Dominoes is slightly further down from the Gare and offers pizzas and finger foods, such as several different types of chickens, dough balls and cheesy bread. You can simply order on their website and go pick up so you don’t have to wait or go there and order your food.
Next, at the tram stop Villereuse, there are a variety of choices to choose from. Firstly, a very popular option: Mikado. Mikado sells a variety of Japanese dishes, from sushi to gyozas and yakitori chicken. Another option is Bagelstein, which is situated in the Migros next to Mikado. You can customize your ideal bagel or choose from their menu and watch as they make it in front of you. They also serve dessert bagels for anyone out there with a sweet tooth – you can add nutella, jam, and many more delicious alternatives. Lastly, there is Edwards. Edwards is further down, located in the Centre Commercial des Eaux-Vives. Edwards specialises in sandwiches but you can also have soups, salads, burgers and a variety of desserts. All three of these restaurants offer indoor seating when the restaurants are open.
Next comes the Terrassiere tram stop, with restaurants such as Poke and Go and Daje. Poke and Go offers poke bowls that you can make yourself: you can choose the base, protein, sauce, and extras of your choice. This is couples with the bubble tea franchise Bubble Brothers, so you can enjoy your poke bowl with a bubble tea. There is also Daje, where there a variety of pizza slices to choose from. Here’s an added bonus: every Monday of the month, you can get your second slice of pizza for only 1CHF! This means that even if you only eat one pizza, you can go with your friends and order yours together and then you’ll have two slices of pizza for around 3-4chf each, which would usually be 5-6chf each.
Lastly, still at the Terrassiere tram stop, there are some drink options for a side to your lunch. Firstly, there is Kony, my personal favourite. Kony serves bubble teas with all different flavours. These flavours include fruit flavours, such as passion fruit, mango and peach, and milk flavours, such as vanilla, banana and sesame. They also offer tapioca, several popping boba flavours, and different flavours of jellies. Kony also offers cup noodles (guess what – you can ask them to put the hot water in at the store), and different Asian snacks, like mochi and Pocky. There will also be a new opening in the shop Eastside that is further down the road from Bubble Brothers. Just Bubble is another bubble tea place that is closer to the Vielle Ville, opening on the 3rd of April – plus, each person will be offered one free bubble tea on opening day! The differences between all these bubble tea places is that Kony is the only one that offers snacks and Bubble Brothers offers poke bowls. So if you’re a big fan of bubble tea, Terrassiere is the place for you.
With that, I hope to have shown you that there are a lot of quick, affordable, and easily accessible places where you can takeaway food/drinks during these times. Happy eating!
