Our Top 10 Horror Movies for a COVID-Friendly Halloween

With Halloween just around the corner, it’s time for the horror-movie watching to begin! Unfortunately, with COVID-19 restricting any Halloween activities you may have had planned, I am here to present to you a corona-friendly way to spend your halloween at home and still have a spooky time. Here are some of our top halloween movies to lift your spirits (no pun intended)!

Host (2020)

While under quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a group of friends have decided to hold weekly Zoom calls to stay in touch. For this week’s call Haley has hired a medium, Seylan, to lead them in a séance. One friend, Teddy, intentionally leaves the chat because his girlfriend Jinny keeps interrupting. During the séance one of the members, Jemma, claims to have made contact with a friend who committed suicide, Jack, only to later admit that it was all fake after Seylan drops out of the call. The remaining people begin to experience strange, terrifying phenomena.

The Sixth Sense (1999)

One of Bruce Willis’ classics. A young boy named Cole Sear is frequently visited by ghosts with unresolved problems. Frightened by the visits, Cole confides in his child psychologist, Dr. Malcolm Crowe. Dr. Crowe tries to uncover the truth about Cole’s supernatural abilities which leads them both on a rollercoaster of unexpected events.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

A scientist builds an artificial human being by the name of Edward. However, the scientist dies before he can quite finish his work, which leaves the artificial human, Edward, with scissors for hands! Edward navigates love, life, and relationships while being treated as an outcast for his scissorhands in this Johnny Depp classic.

Corpse Bride (2005)

A young man named Victor is forced into an arranged marriage by his family. One night, when Victor is rehearsing his vows, he wanders into a forest where he is suddenly dragged to the land of the dead by a dead woman called Emily. In this Tim Burton masterpiece, Victor must get back to the land of the living in order to marry his bride to be.

A Quiet Place (2018)

A truly gripping horror story where a family must live in silence to avoid a deadly unknown creature that hunts by sound. With the parents knowing that any sound can bring them to their untimely death, they desperately try to find a way to protect their children and fight back.

The Ritual (2017)

Four friends reunite to mourn the death of their deceased friend. They decide to go on a hike through the Scandinavian wilderness to scatter his ashes. On a wrong turn they are lead to the mysterious forests of Norse legend, where ancient Satanic evil lurks and hunts then down one by one.

The Addams Family (1991)

In this 90s classic, a man pretending to be Fester Addams, the long lost brother of Gomez Addams, shows up to the Addams family home. At first, the family is thrilled, but his wife, Morticia, has her suspicions of “Fester”, who plots to swindle the family fortune and rob them of their home.

Get Out (2017)

Chris and his girlfriend, Rose, have finally reached a point in their relationship where it is time to meet the parents. Rose invites him to a weekend getaway at her family’s cabin. Chris immediately notices the parents’ strange behaviour due to Rose being in an interracial relationship and slowly starts to see things becoming more and more abnormal.

Coraline (2009)

A girl named Coraline moves house and whilst exploring she comes across a secret door. Little does she know this door is the gateway between alternate worlds that closely mirrors her own. She soon discovers the wonders of this secret door only to realise the horrors of her parallel family, and their secrets.

Shutter Island (2010)

This 2010 psychological thriller stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo. A U.S marshal called Teddy Daniels and his partner are brought to an insane asylum where a woman appears to have vanished. As the investigation deepens, Teddy realises he’s going to have to fight not only against the strange occurrences of the asylum but with himself to make it out alive.
