Art Workshop for IB Students from Dubai

Sylvia Martinsdottir, Year 12

Seck organized an art workshop for IB students from three different schools (two international schools from Dubai and LGB). The workshop took place during the spring break from the 22ndto the 23rdof March in the Centre des Arts. The aims of the workshop were to allow students to devote two days to work and develop their skills to the IB standard, to allow students to be in contact with artists, IB art teachers and specialists, to allow students to cooperate and create new pieces with new perspectives.

The first day was mainly lectures. Teachers from our school and other guest speakers spoke about analysis of formal qualities, interpretation of function and purpose, evaluation of cultural significance, and making comparison and connections. These lectures were indeed helpful and interesting for the student and gave them many tips for the comparison study that has to be done for the IB.

The second day was more practical than theoretical and allowed students to visit museums in the city, work on their own projects, do photography and work on their pages. Overall the students from Dubai were very happy with the trip and the learning experience but they unanimously agreed that going to the Macklemore concert had been the best part of the trip.
