October is internationally recognized as annual ‘Breast Cancer Awareness Month’. This is a month-long campaign, aiming to educate people about the importance of early screening, tests and more, to prevent breast cancer.
Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women at some point in their lifetime, and unfortunately, it is the leading cause of death for women between the ages of 40-50 in Switzerland.
Too many of us know someone who has been affected by breast cancer. That’s why we celebrated Pink Day, where the entire school community came together by wearing pink to show our support, solidarity and love for those affected.
This year, for the very first time, all three Ecolint campuses participated in Pink Day. Meaning that more than 4000 students and staff wore pink on the 8th of October! In addition, through the pink bake sales, as well as generous donations, 2000 CHF was raised for breast cancer research!
A part of the amount has been donated to breast cancer research at Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève, but most of it has been donated to ETH Zurich (École polytechnique fédérale de Zurich), specifically to Professor Orçun Göksel’s project of inventing new technology that will better help detect breast cancer.
Thank you to the Pink Club, Nations StuCo, and the LaChat StuCo for organizing Pink Day!
