Esta semana nuestra escuela tuvo el honor de ser el anfitrión de la novena edición del concurso anual de Brevísimo. La ceremonia de premiación se llevó a cabo la tarde del Martes 30 de Abril. Los estudiantes ganadores vinieron a recibir su premio de su microrrelato con el apoyo de sus compañeros, familia y profesores.
This week, the Art center hosted the Ninth annual Brevísimo award ceremony. The ceremony took place on the evening of Thursday the 30th of April. Here the winners recieved their awards for their short stories with the support of their peers, family and teachers.
Para aquellos que no estén familiarizados con el concurso, este es organizado por la Librería Albatros, La editorial Casa de Cartón y la Escuela Internacional de Ginebra. Para este concurso escuelas animan a los estudiantes a que escriban un microrrelato en español para submitir a un jurado conformado por José Luis Torres Vitolas, Rodrigo Diaz Pino, Hortencia Cid y una la invitada especial de este año. Este año 116 microrrelatos fueron admitidos y han logrado ganar 50 de ellos. El premio de estos estudiantes fue su propia copia del libro de Brevísimo con su texto publicado. Pero no solo acaba ahí, la escritora uruguaya María Rama, como invitada especial, otorgó el premio Tulipán a uno de los 50 relatos.
For those that are not familiar with the competition, it is organized by the Albatroz Library, the editorial house of Cartón and the International School of Geneva. Schools encourage their students to write short stories in spanish to submit to the Jury made up of Jose Luis Torres Vitolas, Rodrigo Diaz Pino, Hortencia Cid and an different special guest each year. This year 116 texts were submitted of which 50 won the award. The prize for their achievement was a copy of this year’s Brevísimo with their short stories published in it. Not only that, but out of those 50 students, one has been selected by Uruguayan writer Maria Rama, this year’s special guest of the jury to win the Tulipan award.
El premio Tulipán fue creado en el 2012 después del fallecimiento de una de las co-fundadoras del concurso, Rosie Smith-Gillespie. Ella junto con Hortencia Cid y Rodrigo Díaz crearon el concurso de Brevísimo en el 2010. Ahora en su honor todos los años se otorga el premio escogido por el invitado especial. Este año la ganadora fue: Eden Chung.
The Tulipan award was founded in 2012 after one of the co founders of the competition passed away, Rosie Smith-Gillespie. Rosie Smith-Gillespie together with Hortencia Cid and Rodrigo Díaz created the Brevísimo competition. Since then, each year the award is given in her honor. This year’s winner of the Tulipan award was: Eden Chung.
La noche de la ceremonia fue cerrada por “El Cuarteto” una función de Flamenco y unas palabras de nuestro director Conrad Hughes. Este concurso es una oportunidad muy grande para todos los estudiantes de nuestra escuela y es algo que debería de causar orgullo en Ecolint.
The ceremony ended by the performance of the “Cuarteto” with flamenco and music as well as some words from our school principal, Dr. Hughes. This competition is a very important opportunity for all the students at our school and should make all of us Ecolint proud.
