By Anya Markovitz, Year 10
This past Tuesday, the 30th of April, students from years 9, 10, and 11 performed their poetry at the Brevísimo contest. Each year the library “Albatros” holds this contest for students to enter short stories or poems and later selects winners from the International School of Geneva. Below are some thoughts from students on the contest.
Afek Sosnowiez, year 10:
“Overall, I think this opportunity is very enriching and students get introduced to different types of poetry that they normally don’t study in school. It is my second year as a winner and I was honestly surprised because I am usually not the best writer. But I am proud because I know I put work into it and it payed off.”
Arwa Alhamdani, year 10:
“I this that this event introduces a fun way for students to develop their Spanish and I highly encourage it. It is my second year participating and I was also thankfully chosen last year as well. I am very happy and lucky to have been chosen, because many people participated and it gives me more confidence in my Spanish.”
Arun Gillins, year 10:
“I think the poetry contest is a great opportunity that the school offers us and I am very proud to be apart of it. It is a fun and original way of introducing Spanish to students at the International School of Geneva and being a winner makes me very proud. It is my first year as a winner and I hope to participate in the years to come.”
India Tamari, year 10:
“This is my first year participating in the brevísimo contest, and so far I am glad to be apart of this experience. Having my piece chosen to be displayed in the book is an honor and it gives me the determination to do my best in written pieces in Spanish because I now know what I am capable of. I think it is great that the school offers opportunities such as this contest and I am all for it!”
