Ahimsa is a very lively musical filled with colourful dances and beautiful songs that just make you want to sing along. However, Ahimsa is not only about the vibrant outfits, it also sheds some light on India’s history, more precisely the state of Kashmir. In the musical, they explain the conflict between India and Pakistan, over Kashmir, and how this forced families to migrate out of the state and live abroad. The musical is about two girls from the two sides in Kashmir. They both have a complicated love for Bollywood. The two girls end up in the same Bollywood dance group and, despite their differences and history, they unite together in a friendship and in dance. Ahimsa overall, was a breathtaking musical with a deep meaning, and conveys a message that needs to be heard.
“Being a part of Ahimsa was an extraordinary experience. Not only was it a fun musical but I also got to learn about another culture. The lights, outfits, and music came together to create a lively musical that tells stories that haven’t been heard of before in this school. The main thing I took from this experience is the importance of diversity and educating ourselves about different cultures.” – Lilitha Mafu
