By Hannah Durham, Year 10
Last Saturday on the 6th of October the CF Marchethon was held in Lausanne. Students walked or ran 5-10 km, ate and played games. It was a great success with 107 LGB students and a total of 14,000 CHF raised by LGB alone. CF Marchethon is one of the many events Ms. Kretzmeier does to raise money and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis, a life threatening disorder that affects the lungs and digestive system. Having a child with Cystic Fibrosis, Ms. Kretzmeier organizes, hosts and participates in many events in order to hopefully find a cure for this devastating disease. The group of LGB participants in the CF Marchethon has grown massively since Ms. Kretzmeier first started going. They started as a group of three in 2013 and increased to a group of 65 just 3 years later, raising 12,000 CHF!
This year students raised more than double the amount of money in comparison to last year with double the amount of students too. As well as the day being a great success, many students had a great time enjoying the food, view and games. Highly recommended by students, one said “It was so much fun and such an amazing experience” , another said “I’m definitely going to do it next year”. High School students of all ages came but year eleven took the cake by having as many participants as grades 9, 10, 12 and 13 combined! However, not only students attended, Ms Murray, Ms Rilstone, Ms Couet, and Mr Power took part as well. With matching CF t-shirts, lovely weather and a beautiful view all certainly had a great time. No need to worry if you’re feeling the FOMO, this event happens annually so if CF Marchethon interests you make sure to come along next year on October 5th so we can raise more money and have even more fun
(A special thanks to the PTA for putting in lots of effort to make this even better by supplying busses and t-shirts for all of us!)
