Lecture on Embryology at LGB

By Mara Maftei

On the 1st of October, LGB was eager to welcome Dr. David Wilson, who gave an intriguing lecture on embryology. Dr. Wilson is a professor at the University of Southampton in England, where he teaches courses for medicine. Embryology is one of the most fundamental course, and is required for almost every profession in medicine. The importance of the study of embryology cannot be understated. It provides an explanation of why there might be abnormal development after birth, or whether any prenatal effects have caused the development of diseases later on in life. Embryology can also be studied as evidence of evolution, since the embryos of different animals such as mammals, birds and reptiles all look very similar, and it is very difficult to distinguish one from another.

The lecture by Dr. Wilson was unaltered from the lectures he gave to Southampton, which gave the students some insight of what the teaching is like at university. It was a very unique experience, and LGB is very privileged to provide us with these opportunities.
