The first month back at school is always the most chaotic. As we adjust to the return of early mornings and long nights of hard work, we must also take into account that STUCO season has just begun. As we all know, this means heated and petty competition between groups of 5-7 students which each believe they can represent the student body better than the others. One team, however, rises above the rest.
Animus STUCO is made up of 7 very different individuals who come from culturally diverse backgrounds, making them the ideal lineup as Student Body Representatives. Each member of this Student Council has very different strong suits and interests, giving them a very well-rounded, structured and accessible feel to their campaign and the ideas that they represent. They have made it very clear from their first day together as Student Council candidates that they want to listen to your ideas and implement them into the events organized throughout the year. Animus’ aim is to represent the students and be completely transparent with them.
Animus StuCO seems to be the only one of the groups campaigning with attainable goals. Emphasizing their disdain for empty promises (such as fake food catering), Animus’ goals consist of both quantity, quality and even though inspired from LGB days gone by, originality. They have admitted to us that they have gotten caught up in the contention of election, especially when they made 550 cupcakes, however this should be interpreted as drive or “animus”. According to them, the main target for this upcoming year is to promote the LGB School Spirit. They want to bring back old traditions which LGB is known for such as the Ski trips and rafting trips. They are also enthusiastic about making a difference outside of the school and will be donating their leftover funds to a charity of your choice, although The Express has a slight inclination towards CF.
They have decided to make a change to the (in)famous “Bal de Neige”, by modernizing it after having listened to the students’ requests. They will be changing this to a “Prom”, so we can live out our all american High School wishes. Includes your very own Prom King and Queen! Animus will bring back the Soccer and Basketball tournaments, as well as a heavily requested Volleyball tournament. A lost and found fashion show will also be started in addition to LGB’s very first Spelling Bee. They want to make sure that everybody is represented here at LGB, whether this involves sports, creativity, or academia.
The @animustuco Instagram seems to be really important to the group, with almost 400 followers they have already overtaken the current STUCO in student outreach. Having an online presence looks like it will be important to their campaign and time in office, with a hyper-active Instagram and anonymous online suggestion box, it looks like they will be hard to beat. Animus wants to make your experience here at school the best one yet, and strongly believes in representing all of you.
