Sylvia Martinsdottir, Year 12
After almost nine weeks of what seemed like a very short summer holiday, the girls’ football team started the year on a good note. In the first two matches that they played, they managed to gain four points. One of the matches was an unexpected tie against Nations, which is usually a three-point win for LGB. The other was a formidable 2-1 win against ISL in a nerve-wrecking battle between the two outstanding teams. This win secured the team a qualification for the semi finals!
Having won four points, LGB came out 1st in their group, in the group stages of the tournament. This means that they managed to advance through to the semi finals of the Ligue de Lac: a tournament that LGB participates in annually.
The tournament works as follows: Every year, six international schools participate in the tournament and are divided randomly into two groups. After each team has played two matches, the top two teams of each group are decided and qualify to the semi finals.
What an outstanding performance from LGB! Well done to the girl’s for an excellent start to the year! But it is not time to stop here. Having come this far, the team is training hard to surprise the others, and show them once and for all, that LGB is the best!
After this tournament, there are more tournaments awaiting the girl’s football team; most notably the sports conference in Munich that will take place in two weeks time. It is your job to motivate the team and keep their spirits high so that they can go into the tournament with confidence, and return home with medals and a big golden cup!
Go Jets!
