Ellie

By S.M, year 12.

Ellie lived in Barrow, Alaska.

Ellie was a young, makeup-free, and bubbly young girl.

Ellie had two best friends with whom she could share her deepest and darkest secrets.

Ellie loved to read, have long walks in the snow, and have game nights with her family.

Ellie lived a tranquil life until her uncle bought her a present.

Ellie got a mobile phone.

Ellie was thrilled at the idea of having access to a whole new world called social media.

She discovered the beauty of apps and fell in love with an app which allows anyone to post pictures of anything.

As she was strolling through her feed, Ellie got struck by a famous account…

The account was owned by a young woman with makeup and long hair.

The account had over 2.5 million followers.

Ellie wanted to be just like her.

Ellie wanted to be famous.

The next day, Ellie studied all of the most famous accounts, trying to learn from them.

She bought makeup, learned how to use it, and started to wear excessive amount of it on her beautiful face every day at school.

She bought the few bikinis her town owned and would take pictures of herself in those bikinis outside in the freezing snow of Alaska.

She would spend every single night reading and chatting with people through social media to get more followers.

Several months later, Ellie was finally happy. She became famous (or so she thought).

Ellie would wake up every morning at 3 a.m to apply those chemicals that Ellie called make-up on her face which would ruin her skin so she could go to school and looked “face goals”.

Ellie would spend hours (instead of doing her homework) posing in weird posizion outside in the snow and in her bikinis. Because of that Ellie was often sick. But she did not care.

Ellie would ignore her only true friends and her family so she could talk online to some random people that would comment on her pictures “you’re a stunner”.

Despite all this, Ellie was happy because she was famous.

One day, Ellie wanted to meet her 3.4 million followers and thank them for their nice messages and nice comments.

Ellie posted a message on profile informing her followers to come that night at 16h and meet her at the icebergs.

Ellie arrived at 15h30, and waited for her followers.

At 16h, there were still no one, but Ellie kept her hopes up.

Three hours passed, and Ellie was still waiting her followers to show up.

At 9, there was still no one.

At 9h30, Ellie started to walk, hoping to see someone who was waiting away from the meeting point.

Ellie, hungry and desperate, walked in the cold and the dark.

Ellie could feel her legs getting tired as she walked between the crevasses and felt her lipstick getting dry.

Suddenly, someone pushed Ellie in a crevasse.

Ellie fell, messed up her hair, but survived.

Ellie looked up to see who pushed her in that deep crevasse.

Ellie saw a girl.

Ellie saw the new Ellie leaving the old Ellie in that deep crevasse .

The old Ellie was forgotten and was never found again.
