Last week, our school had the pleasure to host an exhibition of works from a variety of African artists. Year 12, Art HL students served food and drinks at the well-attended, lively vernissage last Tuesday.
On last year’s humanitarian trip to Senegal in February 2017, we had the opportunity to visit the “Village des Arts”: a village in the capital, Dakar, designed specifically for artists to have their workshops. There, us students were fortunate enough to meet and visit the studio of an artist named Djibril. We were all so happy to welcome him to Geneva!
Kesia Davies, a Year 12 student studying HL Art, was explaining to people the meaning behind Djibril’s work. “The metal represents the body’s expression – the metal comes to life as it connects with your inner soul.” Below are some pictures of his sculptures!
In addition to the vernissage, this year’s Senegal team held their annual fundraising dinner on Thursday night. As usual, it was a success! The food served was the traditional Senegalese dish of “yassa poulet” (cooked by Dr Seck!), and was delicious! Many fun items were won in the raffle, including a 200CHF voucher for Luigia, Beats headphones and some very nice bottles of wine!
This year’s team was very enthusiastic about the trip. Wishing them all the best of luck for this amazing experience!
