Shiraz Rimer, Year 9
During the course of two weeks, a group of tenth graders from La Grande Boissière, Nation and La Chataigneraie went to India for a community service trip. I had the pleasure of interviewing the group from LGB and ask them how it went.
The interviewees said that the India trip was genuinely the best experience of their entire life. Others said that this voyage has made them appreciate how privileged they all are. And all recommend the opportunity to anyone who has the chance of taking part in a humanitarian trip.
The trip consisted of a 10 hour flight to Chennai and later an 8 hour train ride to Kodaikanal. The train ride was said to be a truly unique experience that immersed the group in Indian culture. From ambulant street vendors to smiling children, the group saw it all. In contrast to the positive aspect of India, the poverty was simply shocking to them. Beggars, emaciated children and garbage everywhere.
When asked what the hardest part of the trip was, the team agreed that leaving topped everything. They were sad to part from the children and people that they met throughout the trip. They were amazed to see that they had developed such strong relationships in such a short amount of time. This trip is the perfect example of how humane, humble and bighearted the students at Ecolint really are.
