Last Friday Night the Centre des Arts hosted the second annual Friday Fright Night. It was a huge success. A lot of money was raised for Cystic Fibrosis, and many students enjoyed the Haunted House!
The purpose of the event was to raise money to help fight Cystic Fibrosis, but what exactly is Cystic Fibrosis? CF is an autoimmune disease which results in mucus blocking up the airways in your lungs. It mainly affects your lungs, but the disease can also cause severe damage to your digestive system. This results in an increased level of salt in your sweat and thick, sticky mucus in the respiratory, digestive and reproductive systems. The average life expectancy of a child diagnosed with CF is 30 years.
Friday Fright night was composed of multiple activities, including a haunted house tour that took place in the Grand Bâtiment and in the forest, a screening of halloween TV episodes, games, face painting and food.
The haunted house was really well done, with lots of screaming, fake blood and student abduction. A lot of time and effort was put into the production.
When entering the Grand Bâtiment, the first thing you could hear was screaming and banging. Some people got too scared and instantly decided that the tour was not for them.
I was lucky enough to be a part of the haunted house, and it was a blast! I played an abducted student. Near the end of the first part of the tour, I got abducted by Dr. Hughes, who said he wanted to “conduct an experiment on me”. The storyline was that back when LGB was a boarding school, parents believed that they were sending their kids to receive the best education money could buy, while the teachers were actually crazy scientists who conducted terrible experiments on the students.
I went around asking people what they thought of the tour, and here were some of their responses:
Agostino Menssana (year 11): “I liked it. The house was really well structured and made, and the decorations were nice. ”
Zoe Fisher (year 12): “I thought it was a step up from last year in terms of production and spooky factor. Even though there wasn’t a plot in the experience itself, it still had a good atmosphere.”
Ethan Burke (year 11): “It was brilliantly put together, the time and effort that was put into it really showed. The actors performed very well and really got us spooked.”
Remy Radwan (year 11): “It was more for middle school students, yet it was very impressive and a good way to raise money for a good cause.”
Matteo Ligori (year 11): “I thought it was super cool and well planned. I was really impressed with the decorations, especially the ones in the GB. Having many teachers and the headmaster participate was also nice. All in all, it was great and raising money for cf made it even better. I thank all the people who put in their time to make it happen and I hope this will become a tradition in LGB.”
Hope to see you there next year! And thank you to everyone who came!
