By Reia Morjaria, Year 12
On Saturday 9th of March, the senior night of Bal des Neiges was held with students from Years 11 to 13. Students from La Grande Boissière, La Châtaigneraie, and Nations came together for a night of music and energy at the highly anticipated BDN dance. Organized by the collaboration of the Student Councils from all three schools, this event was a huge success. This event was held across 2 days, with Friday 8th of March, holding the Junior night with students from Years 9 to 11.
The BDN dance was not just an ordinary school event; it was a celebration of diversity and shared experiences. It was held in the President Wilson Hotel across the lake. Students were to arrive from 7pm to 8pm to show their school ID cards to the front desk to then receive a stamp allowing them to enter the venue. The dress code was formal, black tie with the exciting theme of James Bond, Casino Royale, which was voted for by the students of the three campuses. Amidst the festivities, teacher chaperones observed the event, ensuring that the night unfolded smoothly and that students enjoyed themselves responsibly (within the boundaries of school guidelines!).
The Student Councils from all three campuses worked tirelessly, with many months of planning, to ensure that the BDN dance was a night to remember. From coordinating logistics to curating playlists that catered to diverse music tastes, their dedication and commitment were evident in every aspect of the event. Their efforts paid off as as the night unfolded, more and more students joined the dance floor with increasing energy and enthusiasm. At the designated photography stand, students eagerly queued up to take photos with their friends to last them a lifetime. Additionally, a few dedicated student photographers wandered the venue, capturing candid shots and ensuring that every aspect of the evening was preserved for the school’s archives and the students’ memories.
Reflecting on the success of the BDN, members of the Student Councils expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate across campuses. “We are really happy with how the BDN dance turned out, the students seemed to have a very enjoyable time,” remarked Nastasia Sozonoff, a member of the La Grande Boissière Student Council. “We hope next year’s Student Council will be able to improve the event, and improve off of the work we have started to create an even more enjoyable 2 nights.”
As the night drew to an end at 11pm, the students went to collect their jackets and exited the President Wilson Hotel, carrying with them memories that will last them a lifetime. BDN not only exceeded expectations by delivering an unforgettable night, but it also provided students with a night to escape from the pressures of high school and the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum, offering them an opportunity to unwind and revel in a night of enjoyment and fun.
