By Imogen Elford, Year 11
Choosing what Art option to take might be a difficult decision, especially in Year 9, when we are still new to High School. So, for those of you who are still undecided, I can give you some advice on what to choose based on your interests and hobbies.
The first subject you can take is Art and Design:
If you are someone who likes to express themselves through art and drawing, I would recommend Art and Design as your choice because it will be a fun class and you will explore different art techniques, while also testing your creativity. I also recommend this class for people who want something relaxing for the end of the day. Art is a calming activity and it is good for your mental health as you move up to Year 10 to have a break a few times a week to express yourself freely.
The second subject is Music:
This is a great subject if you enjoy listening to and exploring the different aspects of music. Music is a very fun class to try especially if you are passionate about music and instruments. Music is a universal language that resonates with our emotions and connects us across cultures. That is why it is a great thing to learn about, especially if you already take an interest in music outside of school!
The third subject is Performing Arts:
In Performing Arts, you will get to perform in shows, create scripts, and learn all about the behind-the-scenes work done in a theatre. This subject is perfect for you if you are passionate about theatre and the performing arts. Acting is a way to escape reality and see the world from a different perspective. Furthermore, there will be a term for Public Speaking at the end of the year where you will write speeches and work on your presentation skills. I think Performing Arts is a great subject to pick if you want to build your confidence and work on presenting in front of other people.
I hope this advice was useful to you and has helped you to decide which subject you will enjoy the most.
